Frequently asked questions about breast enlargement

If you are considering breast augmentation, we understand that many questions may arise about the procedure, results and the recovery process. For this reason, Blooming Plastic Surgery has posted a frequently asked questions section about breast augmentation on our website. We encourage you to review these questions before scheduling a consultation with us. This will help you better understand the procedure and ask targeted questions during your appointment with us. Our mission is to ensure that you receive the best possible care and that you feel comfortable with your decision to undergo breast augmentation. Please feel free to contact us if you have further questions or would like more information about this treatment.

In this section, you can find answers to common questions about breast augmentation:

Can I still breastfeed after breast augmentation? The prosthesis is placed under the glandular tissue and therefore the surgery does not affect the functioning of the mammary glands. Please note that not every woman can breastfeed; if it cannot be done before surgery, there is little chance that it can be done after surgery.

When you can return to work depends on the type of work you do. If you do lighter work physically, you can start again after two weeks. With physically strenuous efforts and lifting, you will have to wait a little longer. Therefore, the period will be longer (from four weeks), if you are doing more physically demanding work.

During the initial consultation, you can try on different sizes of dentures. Based on your wishes and the plastic surgeon’s expertise, together you will arrive at an appropriate size.

After breast augmentation, small scars remain in the breast fold. These scars remain red and visible, especially in the beginning. You can rub the scars, once the wounds are closed, with a scar cream. After about a year, the scars present have turned into a thin line. For skin types with high pigmentation, scars may remain somewhat more visible.

Prior to the breast augmentation, you will discuss your expectations with your attending plastic surgeon. We look at your physique, skin structure and the glandular tissue present. Based on your needs and the technical possibilities, we prepare a customized treatment plan.

We use two types of breast prostheses: round and anatomically shaped prostheses. During the initial consultation, we will show you the types of breast prostheses, in different sizes. Which type is right for you depends on the shape of your breasts. The round breast prosthesis gives volume over the entire breast, while the drop-shaped (anatomical) prosthesis gives more volume at the bottom.

For the first period after surgery, your breasts or nipples may be a little less sensitive than you are used to. Usually this will take a few weeks to several months. Depending on the procedure, your breasts may also actually be more sensitive than before surgery. In most cases, the “normal” feeling of your breasts gradually returns.

The results of breast augmentation are generally permanent, but over time your breasts may change due to a number of factors: for example, pregnancy, breastfeeding, aging, slimming or sagging skin. You can then have the dentures replaced.

Before the surgeon begins the procedure, he draws on the breast where the incisions will be. Our plastic surgeons place the prostheses through the inframammary fold because this gives the least chance of capsular contracture and the scar falls nicely into the skin fold. After about a year, the scars have become inconspicuous thin lines.

Experience shows that you can return to most daily activities after about two weeks. When you can return to work depends on the type of work you do. If you do lighter work physically, you can start again after two weeks. With physically strenuous efforts and lifting, you will have to wait a little longer. Therefore, the period will be longer (from four weeks), if you are doing more physically demanding work. After about four weeks, you may resume lifting, and after six weeks you can return to sports at a leisurely pace.

After the breast augmentation, we will give you a sports bra that you should wear day and night for the first time for the best recovery. How long this will be for you depends on the situation.

You should wear the bra day and night for at least the first six weeks. You will discuss with your attending plastic surgeon what the best option is in your case.
