Our professional plastic surgeons can inform you well when you are considering a labia correction. You are always welcome in our clinic for an informative consultation. During this first consultation you will discuss your questions, wishes and expectations. The plastic surgeon will review your initial situation with you. This way you will get the best picture of what the labia correction can mean for you and what result you can expect.

During the consultation with the attending surgeon, it will be determined whether the labia correction will take place under local anesthesia or under general anesthesia. Prior to the surgery, we will determine precisely how much of the inner labia we can remove. This is because one of the functions of labia is to prevent dehydration of the vagina. Because of this, they cannot be completely removed. If you prefer, you will be treated by our female plastic surgeon, but the male plastic surgeons also frequently perform labia corrections.

A 100 euro consultation fee is charged for a consultation. These will be deducted from the final price of the treatment.

Correcting your labia takes about an hour, and in most cases you can go home the same day. The part that is removed is often the part that comes out when you are standing. These protruding labia are carefully marked with a sterile marker during the procedure. Using a small knife, the plastic surgeon removes the excess skin. The surgeon then seals the blood vessels and sutures the wound with soluble sutures. These dissolve naturally over time. After the procedure we cover the wound with sanitary towels and a sterile gauze.

Immediately after treatment, your labia will be red and swollen. This may persist for the first week and will subside thereafter. Both walking and sitting may be uncomfortable due to the swelling after treatment. You can take a paracetamol against the pain. Cooling of the treated area can also provide relief. Urinating after the treatment can be painful because of the wound. We recommend simultaneously running lukewarm water along the treatment area. We advise against sexual intercourse, cycling, intensive sports and wearing tight pants for six weeks after the treatment.

It is important that you are aware of the risks and complications that can occur with a labia correction. Our plastic surgeons perform a number of labia corrections every week and are able to minimize complications due to their specialties. However, there are always some risks associated with the procedure:

Rare

  • Subcutaneous blood accumulation
  • Negative reaction to anesthesia
  • Swelling
  • Infection

Very rare

  • Feeling change
  • Visible and palpable scars
  • Damage to underlying structures
  • Undesirable aesthetic result

Scars
Keep scars out of the sun and take care of them with scar cream.

Smoking
Stop smoking at least six weeks before to six weeks after treatment. Smoking constricts blood vessels, which can cause problems with wound healing. The risk of post-bleeding is reduced once you stop smoking.

Frequently Asked Questions

We recommend not inserting a tampon for the first few weeks after treatment. For the first six weeks, the wound area must be kept extra clean so it is important to change tampons regularly.

Yes, you certainly can. It may seem somewhat uncomfortable to undergo a labia correction when you are menstruating, but there is absolutely no need to delay treatment because of this.

Basically, the labia correction is a one-time operation and the results remain the same over the years.

We recommend that you avoid sports or activities such as biking and horseback riding for the first six weeks. After the four weeks, you can resume these gently.
