Breast enlargement
Breast augmentation surgery increases the volume of your breasts and improves their shape and proportion. Every year, many women who feel they have small breasts undergo breast augmentation surgery. Most women choose breast augmentation to enlarge underdeveloped breasts or to regain the former proportions of the breasts after pregnancy or losing weight. With breast augmentation, your breasts not only gain extra volume, but they also become firmer. The goal is to ensure that your breasts form a beautiful whole with your body. Our plastic surgeons are happy to meet with you in a personal consultation where they will answer all of your questions and work with you to determine which treatment options are best for you.

During the first consultation you will discuss your wishes and expectations with the plastic surgeon. The surgeon tells you what options there are and what result you can expect. The treating plastic surgeon will explain how a breast augmentation works. The entire treatment process is discussed and you will be extensively informed about the different options, the advantages and disadvantages of breast augmentation, the aftercare, risks of and any complications after the operation. In addition, it is discussed whether your personal wishes match your starting situation.
In this conversation you can also ask all your questions about breast augmentation. Furthermore, the size of your breasts is recorded by measurement. After that you can get an impression of the possible result with paw prostheses. When choosing breast prostheses, we always take your wishes, your figure and the quality of your skin into account. Prostheses do not only differ in size, but also in shape (round or drop -shaped). The prostheses can be placed under the chest muscle or under the mammary gland. Which placement gives you the best results depends on your skin and the tissue. Do you not want silicone prostheses? Then in some cases it is possible to enlarge breasts with body’s own fat, or lipofilling. This is only possible if you have enough body fat at the suitable places. Ask your treating surgeon about the possibilities.
We believe it is important to properly inform you during the consultation about the results to be achieved, the risks and possible complications so that you can make an informed decision. Ultimately, your wishes and satisfaction with the results of the treatment are our primary concerns.
A consultation is subject to a €100 consultation fee. These will be deducted from the final price of the treatment.
Breast enlargement is performed under general anesthesia and takes an average of one to one and a half hours. During surgery, the prosthesis is inserted through a small incision of about 5 cm in the inframammary fold. Then the incisions are carefully sutured and taped with a band-aid. If necessary, the breasts are bandaged with supportive bandages to enhance recovery. After surgery, fluid may drip from the wound. To drain the wound fluid properly, two thin tubes (drains) are inserted. When hardly any fluid drips from the wound, the tubes are removed. In most cases, this happens the next morning.
Your breasts may feel sore and tight after breast enlargement. The pain will gradually subside in the days following surgery. To help with breast recovery, we have some tips:
- For the first six weeks after surgery, wear a sports bra without underwire day and night. We will hand out this bra after surgery.
- For the first six weeks after surgery, avoid any form of intense exercise, such as sports or heavy lifting.
- Movements that you can perform painlessly will always be allowed, for they will not interfere with recovery.
For several months after breast enlargement surgery, the nipples may be extra sensitive or less sensitive. This is a normal phenomenon that generally disappears after a few months. To ensure that we can intervene immediately in case of any complications and to relieve you in the first important hours after the procedure, we recommend staying in the hospital overnight in most cases.
The scars are swollen and red for the first six weeks after a breast augmentation. Then this gradually decreases. The complete healing process of scars lasts one to a year and a half. To promote this process, we recommend using a good scar cream and to expose your scars as much as possible to UV radiation. To promote the wound healing process, we advise you not to smoke six weeks before and six weeks after the operation. With this you reduce the chance of after bleeding and other complications. In addition, we advise not to consume alcohol 1 week before until 1 week after the procedure.
As with any surgery, there is a small chance of complications. Common risks are: The general risks are:
- post-bleeding
- infections
- swelling
- delayed wound healing
- allergic reactions
Specific complications that may occur in exceptional cases of breast enlargement are:
- sensory changes
- asymmetry
- capsular contracture
A capsular contracture occurs when the connective tissue layer that forms around the prosthesis contracts instead of remaining flexible and thin. This contraction can make the breasts feel harder. In extremely rare cases, this is accompanied by pain and distortion of the breast.
