Botox

A Botox treatment is a method to combat wrinkles and thus achieve a fresh, young and natural-looking appearance. An example is smoothing crow’s feet or a forehead wrinkle/frown wrinkle, correcting a Gummy Smile or reducing dry skin. Botox not only inhibits the muscle movements that cause wrinkles to form, it is also used to reduce medical complaints. Botulinum toxin, the active substance in Botox, also ensures that complaints such as migraine, teeth grinding or excessive sweating can be treated effectively.

Treatment with Botox is not invasive, but Botox definitely changes your appearance. The specialists at our clinic in Haarlem find it important that you fully support your decision. Therefore, you will always have an intake interview with the specialist treating you. In this consultation, we explain to you the expected result of the treatment and the risks. This way you can make an informed choice. If necessary, a follow-up consultation will be scheduled to see the result of the treatment.

A 100 euro consultation fee is charged for a consultation. These will be deducted from the final price of the treatment.

The Botox treatment generally takes no longer than 15 minutes. A thin needle is used to inject Botox into a muscle, stabilizing the muscle and restoring facial harmony. The thin needle ensures that this does not leave you with scars. After the treatment, the final result is not immediately visible. After a few days the first effects become visible and after two to three weeks the full result can be seen. Botox treatment is suitable for both cosmetic and medical purposes.

For three hours after the Botox treatment you should not lie on one side, exercise or rub your face. For three days after the injection, on the advice of the plastic surgeon, you can regularly contract the facial muscles to positively influence the result. The effect of Botox treatment is visible for a minimum of three months and a maximum of six months. Of course, you can return to the Blooming clinic in Haarlem after this period. Because we ‘know’ your face, a follow-up treatment is shorter and the result even better. In many cases, the effect for teeth grinding and excessive sweating remains noticeable for much longer: an average of nine months.

Treatment with Botox is safe, but as with the use of other drugs or procedures, you may experience side effects. However, these symptoms are often short-lived. The side effects that can occur with Botox treatment can be divided into 2 categories: rare and very rare.

Rare

  • Bruising around areas of injection.
  • Swelling around the eyes. This may occur a few days after the injection and will disappear spontaneously after five to 10 days.
  • Headache: this usually disappears after a few days. Individuals with migraine and muscle tension headaches may actually benefit from botulinum toxin injections.
  • Eyebrow ptosis: this can result from injecting too close to the eyebrow to remove the low wrinkles on the forehead. The eyebrow will eventually return to its normal position.

Very rare

  • Eyelid ptosis: drooping of the eyelid after injection.
  • Difficulty swallowing: may occur with injections in or around the neck region. This effect is temporary.
  • Allergic reaction.
  • Nausea and dizziness, fever and signs of flu.
  • Dissatisfaction with aesthetic result.

We do not recommend Botox treatment during pregnancy, during antibiotic treatment, when you have just been vaccinated and while breastfeeding. Also inform us if you are hypersensitive to Botox or suffer from myasthenia gravis (muscle disorder) or Lambert Eaton syndrome.

Botox involves the use of a very small injection needle. Most clients describe this as small pricks with a pin and do not find it painful at all. After the Botox treatment, the skin may be a bit sensitive, red and swollen. This usually subsides after half an hour.

We often use the collective term “injectables” when referring to Botox and fillers. Both treatments are performed to reduce or combat wrinkles, but there is a difference. A treatment with Botox takes about 15 minutes and causes the muscles that cause wrinkles to relax. The uses of Botox include reducing frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles. Botox works to prevent wrinkles and is used when the skin needs rest. Botox remains visible for about three to seven months. A filler treatment, on the other hand, takes about 15 to 30 minutes and is used to fill in wrinkles. These include, in particular, lines around the nasolabial fold or loss of volume at the temples or cheeks. Fillers are also used to fill in lips. Fillers remain visible for about nine months to two years and are broken down by the body. This is because fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, which is the body’s own substance. A filler is used when the wrinkle is already clearly visible.
