Renuvion treatment

Aging, pregnancy(s) and weight loss can sag skin all over the body. Using the Renuvion (J-Plasma) treatment, the skin can be tightened from the inside out on several parts of the body. The most common body parts to treat with the Renuvion are the neck, upper arms, abdomen, upper legs and knees. Renuvion treatment is combined with liposuction to a greater or lesser extent.

The treatment process

What is the treatment process for a Renuvion treatment?

Anesthesia

General anesthesia

Operation duration

30 – 90 minutes

Recovery time

4 to 6 weeks

If you are considering Renuvion (J-Plasma) treatment, please schedule a consultation with one of our plastic surgeons. During this initial consultation, you will discuss your symptoms, expectations and wishes. Following an examination, the plastic surgeon will determine if you are a suitable candidate for Renuvion treatment and which treatment method will provide the best results for you. At Blooming Clinic, you can always count on clear education and honest advice, including about treatment, possible risks and complications, and the recovery period.

Your plastic surgeon will also ask you about your health, your medical history and your medication use. If you have any questions, it is possible to ask them during the consultation as well. If you decide to proceed with treatment, all the information will be compiled into a treatment plan. That way you know exactly what to expect.

A 100 euro consultation fee is charged for a consultation. These will be deducted from the final price of the treatment.

The operation time depends on the number of indications being treated and whether Renuvion treatment is combined with liposuction of one or more body parts. To perform liposuction, small holes are made in the skin. A cannula is used to numb the area to be treated and “loosen” the underlying fatty tissue. The excess fatty tissue is aspirated and drained through a cannula. After liposuction, the Renuvion treatment is performed, using the same small openings in the skin.

You will wake up in the recovery room of the operating department after surgery. When you are sufficiently awake, you will return to the nursing ward. There, the nurse regularly checks your blood pressure, pulse and dressing. You may drink again, but take care, as you may be nauseated from the anesthesia. You may drink again, but take care, as you may be nauseated from the anesthesia. Should you feel pain or nausea, please feel free to ask the nurse for something against this. When you have drunk well, urinated and are not nauseated, the nurse will remove the IV. Sometimes sutures are placed which are removed after 1 week on an outpatient basis.

Hospitalization time depends on how extensive the procedure is. Usually, you will be allowed to go home the same day. For the first few days at home, you should take it easy, but you do not need to be in bed. Afhankelijk van uw conditie, kunt u na een week weer lichte werkzaamheden verrichten. On the wound are white band-aids. Leave these on for the first week or until they fall off on their own. They make sure, especially in the first few days, that the wound heals properly. The plasters can withstand water well. So you may shower as normal, but it is best not to swim or bathe.

You may experience a painful, numb feeling in the treated area for the first time. You may use paracetamol for this purpose. Always read the package insert carefully before use. It is wise to avoid heavy work for the first six weeks after surgery; this includes intense fitness training and sports. Of course, this all depends on how extensive your procedure was. Your plastic surgeon will discuss this with you. As long as the incision holes are red, do not expose them to ultraviolet light (sun or tanning bed). You can protect it with a band-aid or sunblock (factor 30). Using a self-tanner or spray tan on the scars is also not recommended. The pigment from the self-tanner can soak into the skin and cause permanent discoloration.

In general, Renuvion treatment is not painful. In order for the treated area to heal properly, it is important that you wear compression garments 24 hours a day for at least 2 weeks. The total recovery period from a Renuvion treatment is about four to six weeks. After that, all normal movements are possible again and you can also play sports again. The treated area may still be somewhat swollen. It takes up to nine months to achieve the final result.

There are risks associated with any surgery. Before deciding whether to undergo a tummy tuck, it is important to be well informed about the risks involved. An individual’s choice to undergo surgery is based on weighing the risks against the potential benefits. Although most people do not experience complications, you should discuss them with your plastic surgeon in advance to ensure that you understand the risks, possible complications and consequences of a tummy tuck.

Bleeding

With any surgical procedure, there is a risk of post-operative bleeding. Should post-bleeding occur, you may need surgery again to remove the blood clots and stop the bleeding. Extreme blood loss sometimes requires a blood transfusion to replenish the lost blood, but this is very rare. Use of blood thinners like ascal/aspirin, sintrommitis, marcoumar or painkillers like brufen and diclofenac should be reported to your plastic surgeon at your outpatient visit. It will usually be chosen not to perform the surgery to reduce the risk of bleeding. High blood pressure that is not well controlled with medication can also cause excessive bleeding during or after surgery. A less severe form is getting a bruise. It sometimes leads to discoloration of the skin and is usually temporary in nature.

Infection

As with any surgical procedure, wound infection can occur. Should an infection occur, treatment may include giving antibiotics or opening the wound.

Delayed wound healing

Impaired or delayed wound healing may also occur. Some areas of the skin sometimes do not heal as expected and healing can take a long time. It is even theoretically possible for the skin to partially die due to poor circulation. However, this is very rare and especially in smokers. Wounds that heal more slowly may result in frequent dressing changes, or further surgery to remove unhealed tissue.

Scars

All surgical wounds leave scars, although the incisional holes in Renuvion treatment are very small. The quality of these scars can vary. Scars have been healing for over 18 months. During this period, they may show redness, lumps and irregularities. Scarring can adversely affect the cosmetic result.

Adverse outcome

As with any cosmetic procedure, your satisfaction with the result is closely related to your expectations. It is important to clarify your wishes and expectations as precisely as possible during the consultation with the plastic surgeon, so that he or she can educate you about the (im)possibilities.

Allergic reactions

In rare cases, local allergies may occur to tape, suture materials and adhesives, blood products, topical preparations or injected agents. Severe systemic reactions (spread throughout the body), including anaphylactic shock, can also occur in response to medications used during surgery and prescription drugs. All of these reactions may require additional treatment. If you are known to have an allergy, you are asked to mention it during your visit with your plastic surgeon.

Smoking

Smokers have a higher risk of problems such as poorer wound healing after surgery, the occurrence of infections and bleeding during and after surgery. Patients are therefore advised not to use cigarettes or other nicotine-containing substances such as nicotine gum from 6 weeks before to 6 weeks after surgery. This reduces the additional risk of complications. Smoking also has long-term harmful effects on the skin and accelerates the aging process.
