Nipple correction

You can undergo a nipple correction if you are unhappy with your nipples or areola. Nipple correction is a collective term for various procedures on your nipple, such as a nipple reduction, areola reduction or reconstruction of retracted nipples. Are your nipples too large, small, uneven or retracted? We will work with you during the initial consultation to determine which treatment method is appropriate for your complaint. Our plastic surgeons will correct your problem with a relatively minor surgical nipple correction.

The treatment process

What is the treatment process for a nipple tuck?

Anesthesia

Local anesthesia

Operation duration

30 – 60 minuten

Recovery time

4 – 10 days

During the first consultation, the plastic surgeon determines whether your wishes are feasible. Here it is very important that you indicate what your expectations are. The plastic surgeon will check if this corresponds with the technical possibilities.

Next, the surgeon performs a brief physical examination to determine which type of treatment is most appropriate for you. Then you will discuss together what to expect, what risks are associated with the procedure and the plastic surgeon will give tips on the best aftercare. For the best recovery and the fastest wound healing, it is important that you take measures before the treatment. For example, you should stop smoking six weeks before the operation and keep it up until at least six weeks after the operation. This reduces the risk of post-operative bleeding.

Prior to the procedure, we take photos for your medical records, this allows us to best assess the result afterwards.

Voor een consult worden 100 euro consultkosten in rekening gebracht. Deze worden in mindering gebracht op de uiteindelijke prijs van de behandeling.

Our plastic surgeons perform nipple correction under local anesthesia because it is a relatively minor plastic surgery procedure. Once the anesthesia has set in, the surgeon marks off the area where he makes the incisions. The location of the incisions depends on the treatment method. Which method the surgeon uses on you was discussed during the initial consultation.

A nipple correction takes an average of 30 to 60 minutes, and often you can leave our clinic the same day. Keep in mind that you are not allowed to drive yourself, so always take someone with you to accompany you. To suppress any pain, you can take Paracetamol. Rest your body for the first few days after surgery.

Nipple correction is a relatively minor procedure and the risk of complications is zero. Still, it is important for you to be aware that cosmetic surgery always carries risks. You can reduce the risk of complications yourself by following the instructions the surgeon discussed with you during the initial consultation.

The risks and complications that may occur during correction are:

Rare:

  • Blood accumulation under the skin
  • Negative reaction to anesthesia
  • Wound infection
  • Post-bleeding
  • Lingering fiery scars
  • Allergic reaction

Very rare:

  • Feeling change in the breast
  • Necrosis of the skin
  • Damage to tissues of the breast
  • Inability to breastfeed

Scars

Scars are red and swollen at first, but this usually lessens after six weeks. Keep in mind that a scar takes about a year to a year and a half to reach a final stage. Keep scars out of the sun and care for them with a scar cream. At our clinic, we use Staudt scar cream.

Smoking

Stop smoking at least six weeks before to six weeks after treatment. Smoking constricts blood vessels, which can cause problems with wound healing. The risk of subsequent bleeding is reduced once you stop smoking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Basically, the procedure is suitable for any woman who is not satisfied with her nipple or areola. However, it is important here that the requirements and wishes are realistic and match the result.

You can breastfeed only if the mammary gland and milk ducts are spared during the operation. This is not always possible and the plastic surgeon will discuss which method he will perform on you prior to surgery.

You can carefully shower again the day after the correction. However, it is important to keep the wound and gauze as dry as possible. After showering, you can gently pat the wound dry. You should not bathe for the first six weeks.
