Booming bij Blooming:
There is a wide range of different reasons for people to opt for cosmetic nose reshaping surgery (rhinoplasty). It may be a question of cosmetics or patency (difficulty breathing for example). Rhinoplasty procedures performed at Blooming Clinic are mainly cosmetic. For complaints about nose function, some insurance companies may decide to reimburse the costs. The Blooming Clinic plastic surgeons keep their knowledge up to date by visiting foreign clinics to learn the latest rhinoplasty techniques.
Rhinoplasty is performed under a general anaesthetic. Surgery usually takes an hour to an hour and a half, depending on the work that needs to be carried out. Sometimes, work is carried out on the nose tip alone, sometimes the hump or the bridge. It is important that the patient looked at their nose carefully beforehand and can fully explain what is their wishes are. We can then determine whether these wishes are technically feasible. Ultimately, the nose is a fully functional body part and must remain so. Because the nose is a three-dimensional body part made from bone, cartilage, skin and other material, it is important to understand that these operations can definitely deliver an improvement, but not perfection. This is because of the different variables that must be taken into account.
After surgery, you will receive a splint that protects the nose for a week. The stitches will be removed after one week and at this point, you are usually already able to go public. Most of the swelling will disappear after 4-6 weeks, but small changes will continue to occur 12 months after surgery. Further adjustments may be necessary (though they are very rare) and will usually be carried out one year after the first surgery.
However good the result will be, there are always disadvantages to surgery. For example, general risks associated with a surgical procedure such as bleeding and wound infection. Fortunately, these complications are uncommon, but you should be aware of the risk before surgery. A wound infection can be treated with antibiotics and secondary bleeding will result in additional swelling and blue discolouration, which will fade eventually. Sometimes, if the nasal bones are to be broken, this may cause swelling of the lower eyelids. This will usually disappear within a few days.
So, ensure you are well-informed about surgery. The better-informed a patient is about the pros and cons, the better they can decide whether the risks of surgery are worth it.
