The treatment process

What is the treatment process for a nipple correction?

Anesthesia

Local anesthesia

Operation duration

30 – 60 minutes

Recovery time

4 – 10 days

During the first consultation, the plastic surgeon determines whether your wishes are feasible. Here it is very important that you indicate what your expectations are. The plastic surgeon will check if this corresponds with the technical possibilities.

Next, the surgeon performs a brief physical examination to determine which type of treatment is most appropriate for you. Then you will discuss together what to expect, what risks are associated with the procedure and the plastic surgeon will give tips on the best aftercare. For the best recovery and the fastest wound healing, it is important that you take measures before the treatment. For example, you should stop smoking six weeks before the operation and keep it up until at least six weeks after the operation. This reduces the risk of post-operative bleeding.

Prior to the procedure, we take photos for your medical records, this allows us to best assess the result afterwards.

A 100 euro consultation fee is charged for a consultation. These will be deducted from the final price of the treatment.

Our skilled plastic surgeons perform nipple correction procedures under local anesthesia, as it is a relatively minor surgery. Once the anesthesia takes effect, the surgeon carefully marks the area where incisions will be made. The specific location of the incisions varies depending on the chosen treatment method, which is thoroughly discussed during the initial consultation.

A correction of the nipple typically takes 30 to 60 minutes and often you can leave our clinic on the same day. Please note that you are not allowed to drive yourself, so always bring someone along to accompany you. Take Paracetamol to alleviate any pain. Rest well in the first few days after the surgery to give your body the necessary time to recover.

Nipple correction is a procedure of minimal importance with no associated risks. However, it is crucial to acknowledge that cosmetic surgery always entails some level of risk. By adhering to the instructions provided by the surgeon during the initial consultation, you can personally minimize the chances of complications.

Potential risks and complications that may arise during the correction process include:

Rare:

  • Blood accumulation under the skin
  • Negative reaction to anesthesia
  • Wound infection
  • Post-bleeding
  • Lingering fiery scars
  • Allergic reaction

Very rare:

  • Feeling change in the breast
  • Necrosis of the skin
  • Damage to tissues of the breast
  • Inability to breastfeed

Scars

Initially, scars may appear red and swollen, but this typically diminishes within six weeks. It’s important to note that the complete maturation of a scar can take anywhere from a year to a year and a half. To promote optimal healing, protect scars from sun exposure and provide proper care using a specialized scar cream like Staudt, which we utilize at our clinic.

Smoking

To optimize the healing process, it is recommended to cease smoking for a minimum of six weeks prior to and following treatment. Smoking narrows blood vessels, hindering proper wound healing. After quitting smoking, the risk of subsequent bleeding is significantly reduced.

Frequently Asked Questions

Essentially, the procedure is suitable for any woman who is not satisfied with her nipple or areola. However, it is important here that the requirements and desires are realistic and align with the outcome.

You can breastfeed only if the mammary gland and milk ducts are preserved during the surgery. This isn’t always feasible, and the plastic surgeon will discuss the method they will use prior to the operation.

You can safely take a shower again the day after the correction. However, it’s important to keep the wound and gauze as dry as possible. After showering, you can softly pat the wound dry. You should not take a bath for the first six weeks.
