Upper leg lift

Due to extreme emaciation, pregnancies, aging or surgery, the skin and fat of the upper legs can become very saggy and wrinkly. Using a thigh lift or thigh lift, we tighten your sagging thigh skin. Using a medical term, this surgery is called dermolipectomy of the thighs.

The treatment process

What is the treatment process for an upper leg lift?

Anesthesia

General anesthesia

Operation duration

120 – 180 minutes

Recovery time

2 – 3 weeks

During the initial consultation, your plastic surgeon will discuss everything regarding the plastic surgery procedure:

  • Which method is best for you;
  • What result you can expect;
  • The possible risks and complications;
  • Proper aftercare;
  • You will always receive honest advice and clear information about treatment and recovery after thigh lift.

During the consultation, the plastic surgeon will also review whether you are a suitable candidate for a thigh lift. The surgeon will ask about your health, your medical history and your medication use. If you are taking any medications, you must tell the plastic surgeon. This way he or she can best advise you on their use. For example, depending on the drug, you may not take blood thinning medication until two weeks before surgery.

In addition, you must stop smoking at least six weeks in advance, as smoking constricts blood vessels, which can cause problems with wound healing. If you are overweight, it is necessary to lose weight before surgery. This will improve the surgical outcome and reduce the risk of infection.

The plastic surgeons at Blooming Plastic Surgery would like to see you at an initial consultation to best assess your eyes. From there, a proposal for the operation follows.

A 100 euro consultation fee is charged for a consultation. These will be deducted from the final price of the treatment.

The thigh lift always takes place under anesthesia in day surgery and is extended to an overnight stay if necessary. For minor sagging of the upper leg, surgical correction can be performed by tightening and suturing the skin in the groin. In most cases, however, the skin will be stretched in two directions, creating a long S-shaped scar from your groin to your knee. The plastic surgeon makes the scar in the inside of your thigh. This makes the scar less noticeable. If necessary, excess fat is removed in the same surgery. The skin is sutured with subcutaneous sutures and sealed with suture patches. Sometimes drains are placed to drain fluid.

Our advice is to wear tight elastic tights over your upper legs after surgery. This should be worn day and night for 4 weeks and then during the day for another 2 weeks. The first 2 weeks after surgery it is important that you behave as calmly as possible. You should not engage in sports or heavy physical work. The wound healing will take about 2 weeks. After that, you may begin light work. Heavy work and sports can be performed after 4 to 6 weeks.

An upper leg lift has the same risks as any other surgery. The wound can become infected, which is incidentally rare. The greatest risk of infection is in people who have too much subcutaneous fat tissue. Therefore, it is important to have as normal a weight as possible before surgery. Once in a while bleeding can occur. You will then need another operation in which the doctor closes the bleeding blood vessel.

Rare

  • Bleeding
  • Poor wound healing
  • Allergic reactions
  • Infection of the treatment area

Very rare

  • Asymmetry of the thighs
  • Dissatisfaction with the aesthetic result
  • Damaged underlying structures

Scars

Scars are red and swollen the first period after surgery, but this usually lessens after six weeks. Keep in mind that a scar takes about a year to a year and a half to reach a final stage. Keep scars out of the sun and take care of them with a scar cream.

Smoking

Stop smoking at least six weeks before and up to six weeks after treatment. Smoking constricts blood vessels, which can cause problems with wound healing. The risk of subsequent bleeding is reduced once you stop smoking.
